SnapRedact: Local Browser Screenshots With Auto-Redaction and Searchable PDF Export
SnapRedact is not built yet. If Edge's free Web Capture is already enough for you, skip this — the registration below asks exactly that, and honest "it's enough" answers count against building it. But if you regularly share screenshots and first have to hunt down and blur emails, phone numbers, names, amounts or order numbers by hand, this is the gap being tested: a planned extension that captures the page locally and masks those details in one click, for an indicative $19 one-time. We will only build it if 20 people register before November 10, 2026.
Why this shape
Screenshot tools are not scarce: GoFullPage reports roughly 11 million Chrome users and Awesome Screenshot roughly 3–4 million. In those products, redaction/masking, PDF export and higher resolution sit behind paid tiers (GoFullPage Premium is about $12/year; Awesome Screenshot premium starts around $36/year) — bundled into all-in-one subscriptions. There is no small one-time-purchase tool that does only the "mask before sharing" job.
The honest counter-argument is built into this test: Edge already ships Web Capture for free, with full-page capture and basic annotation. If that covers your needs, a paid redaction tool has no reason to exist — which is why one registration question asks directly whether the built-in tool is enough for you.
Everything would run in your own browser: no account, no screenshot ever uploaded to a server. Auto-detection would start with pattern-based rules (emails, phone formats, order-number shapes) plus manual boxes for anything it misses — it will not be perfect, and the page does not pretend otherwise.
Planned capabilities (none of this exists yet)
Full-page and region capture inside the browser, fully local
One-click detection and masking (blur or solid block) of emails, phone numbers, names, amounts and order numbers, with manual add/remove boxes
Minimal annotation: arrows, rectangles, short text notes
Export as PNG or searchable PDF
No account, no uploads, no cloud processing of your screenshots
This page promises nothing that is not written above. Features, if the product is built, will follow what registrants actually ask for.
Who this is for
Support, operations, QA and finance staff who send screenshots to customers, colleagues or public channels
Anyone who posts screenshots publicly (bug reports, tutorials, social posts) and has to scrub private details first
If your browser's built-in capture already does everything you need, this is not for you — please still consider answering, because that answer decides whether this gets built
Indicative price (not a live price — nothing is for sale, no payment is taken)
$19 one-time
Registering is just sending one email — no payment, no pre-order, no commitment to buy. Please say what you most often need to mask (chat logs / orders / dashboards / other), whether Edge's built-in Web Capture is already enough for you, and whether you would pay $19 one-time: those answers decide both whether this gets built and what ships first.
This extension is not built yet. Development will only begin if 20 people join this waitlist by November 10, 2026 — and even then, if most registrants say the browser's built-in capture is already enough, the idea will be dropped as not different enough. If either happens, every registrant will be notified by email. The price and threshold are test parameters for this validation, not market conclusions.
Questions
Can I use it now? No. Nothing has been built; this page is the whole thing.
Does registering mean I have to buy it? No. It only means "notify me if it launches". Decide when there is a real product to look at.
Why not just use the browser's built-in capture? You should, if it is enough. It captures and annotates for free; what it does not do is find and mask sensitive details for you. This validation exists to find out whether that one difference matters to at least 20 people.
Will auto-redaction catch everything? No detector catches everything. The plan is pattern-based detection plus quick manual boxes, and the exported image is yours to check before sending — the tool assists, it does not guarantee.
